gsm2go, we believe in providing an effective service to our customers (not taking them for a ride).Here is a very simple guide to optimize your use of cellular data while roaming.Applying those setting will make wonders to reduce your cellular data consumption.It will not affect your user experience. Your phone will work the same as you are used to.
It should take under 5 minutes to apply:
iPhone:
Apply these settings to reduce data usage. (This will not affect your user experience).Under 3 minutes:

Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options: Reduce cellular usage: Turn on Low Data Mode, or tap Data Mode, then choose Low Data Mode.This mode pauses automatic updates and background tasks when iPhone is not connected to Wi-Fi.

Please don’t use streaming services (music, video), while not connected to WiFi. (For music, you can download over WiFi and then listen offline)
Android Roaming Data Usage Optimization Guide:
Apply these settings to reduce data usage. (This will not affect your user experience).Under 5 minutes:

Disable Automatic App Updates on Cellular Data: Make sure your applications only update over Wi-FiApps > Play Store > Settings > Auto-update Apps > Set "Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only"

Disable Background data: Prevent your applications from pulling data in the background when they are not in use. Settings > Data usage > Background data > Turn off.

Disable Auto Sync of Accounts: Accounts > ...More > Disable auto sync

Monitor Application Usage: Data usage > Scroll through to see what applications are using the most data.
